The Audacity

In today's Wall Street Journal, UAW President Ron Gettlefinger suggests some interesting advice to the Big Three CEOs, "...consider resigning if that would help win backing for a bailout."

I'm curious and baffled why Mr. Gettlefinger hasn't applied this same advice to his union.

  1. Amen.

I think Michigan needs to ban unions from the state for 5 years, just to make folks understand how far their heads were up... you know. Mind you, I have family members and friends that are union folks. I understand the benefits, but I cannot see how they didn't feel like they couldn't do anything to aid their employer(s).

  2. Hey - I'm all about worker's right to organize - but the UAW is run more like a cartel.

I don't think we even need to ban unions totally, but separate them. There is no reason worker's cannot unionize per company - the only reason they organize per industry is a leftover from FDR who mandated it. Imagine if Ford, Chrysler, and GM all had separate unions - it would have been a way to protect worker's rights, but keep things competitive - and reduce the likelihood of all 3 of the Big 3 failing together.
