A Few of My Favorite Things

I thought I'd make a list of things I like. For no real reason. Because sometimes that's the best reason to write a blog post.

I really like music, art, and baking. So - here's some of those things for your pleasure.

1. Electric Light Orchestra: the best, cheesiest, good-feeling feel-good music from the 70's. I remember watching the movie Xanadu over and over with my sister, my number one music and dance influence. I want to put on rollerskates and pretend I'm Olivia Newton John (with that adorable Australian accent) in Xanadu every time I hear them. LOVE love love it. Though technically released in 1980, the 70's influence is pervasive. (Also, makes me want to dye my hair blonde and apply unnatural amounts of bronzer.)

2. Croatian Naive Art. I have wanted to write a post about Croatian Naive art forever. I've never done it since I've always thought I needed an art history degree to provide enough background, etc., but I've gotten over myself. So - here I'm going to post some of my favorite works by Croatian naive artists. I love this genre, I love the homeyness, the peaceful feeling I get, the simplicity I yearn for - it's IN these paintings.

3. Famous Challah. I don't have a photograph of my challah, but if I did, you wouldn't have believed I made it anyway - it looks like a dream, perfectly braided and shiny with beaten egg. I have made this challah a number of times and a friend gave me the recipe. It has never failed, even when I halved the amount of yeast (was much more dense, but always delicious.) Do yourself a favor, and learn to make this recipe.
